The official WRC teams were recently unveiled in Europe, with the USA's Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino standing alongside rally legends Petter Solberg, Seb Loeb, and new-to-rally F1 star Kimi Raikonnen. Based on the success of last season's series finale where over 61 million people watched Loeb and Hirvonen's battle to the wire, the WRC rights holders, North One TV, have announced a slew of upgrades to this season's coverage. In addition to new network deals being secured - including Discovery in the USA - the production will also include a resurrection of aerial helicopter footage, new in-car systems, live coverage at select events, and the move to HD in the near future.

In a recent WRC.com article, Block also confirmed that his Monster World Rally Team program is a multi-year plan, with seven 'learning' events this year with an eye towards 2011 and 2012. The intention is to have additional drivers in the team in the future, with the possibility of Chris Atkinson joining the team later this year and in 2011 if sponsorship can be arranged. ""We really tried to work out some deals to get him in the team this year." said Block. "I really like Chris, he's a really good guy and an amazing driver, but unfortunately the deals didn't come together how we wanted. We're looking to have him come out possibly for an event or two this year - we're not really sure when or where - and then looking to have him in the team for 2011."
